Double bassist Pierre-Emmanuel de Maistre has been a member of the Concertgebouw Orchestra since August 2013 and was appointed principal double bassist in 2015.

He initially studied cello at the conservatory in his hometown of Toulon, and later at the conservatory in Rueil-Malmaison. He then pursued advanced studies in double bass with Jean-Pierre Resecco in Toulon and Vincent Pasquier in Paris, before continuing his studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen with Niek de Groot, former principal double bassist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. He has participated in masterclasses with Philippe Müller, Gary Hoffman, Franz Helmerson, and Matthew McDonald.

Between 2003 and 2007, he was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Seiji Ozawa International Chamber Music Academy in Switzerland. In 2003, Pierre-Emmanuel de Maistre was appointed principal assistant double bassist of the Lille National Orchestra. He has also played as a substitute with various other orchestras in France, and in 2012 with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Chamber music holds a special place in Pierre-Emmanuel's heart; in 2007, he participated in the Seiji Ozawa International Academy, a summer quartet workshop in Geneva.

Pierre-Emmanuel has performed at numerous chamber music festivals, such as the Barga Opera and the Thèze International Chamber Music Festival in southern France.
​
He is a tenured professor of double bass at the Musikene Higher School of Arts in San Sebastián.
​
Pierre-Emmanuel plays a Bergonzi double bass from the collection of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Foundation, made in Cremona (circa 1760).
